ASEAN-US Special Meeting Postponed

PHNOM PENH: Foreign Ministry spokesman, Chum Sounry, told reporters that the ASEAN-US Special Summit has been postponed without setting a specific date.

On Wednesday morning, Spokesperson Chum Sounry said that the postponement of the summit was due to the fact that some ASEAN leaders were busy on the proposed dates at the end of March.

He said, "Unfortunately, the proposed dates, both from ASEAN and from the US, were not convenient for our leaders due to their respective heavy agenda. For that reason, both sides, ASEAN and the US decided to postpone the Summit and continue to work for a mutually convenient date."

He stressed that Cambodia, as the ASEAN Chair, is flexible on the proposed dates and has coordinated, especially on the domestic agenda, to fulfill its regional and international obligations. As a result, he said for the convenience and possible attendance of all ASEAN leaders, Cambodia has agreed with ASEAN member states to postpone the meeting.
